How to keep your New Year’s resolutions

Greetings on this rainy Monday as we set forth into the second week of the new year! How are your New Year's resolutions unfolding? What transformative changes have you decided to embark on this year, and have you taken the time to establish clear and specific goals? To assist you in navigating the journey of making those resolutions a permanent part of your life, here are five comprehensive tips.

Embarking on the pursuit of your New Year's resolutions can be an exhilarating yet challenging endeavor. The key to success lies in ensuring that your goals align harmoniously with your unique lifestyle, recognizing that cultivating healthy habits is a gradual process that demands both time and energy.

* Be Exceedingly Specific: Instead of expressing a generalized desire to lose weight, endeavor to pinpoint the exact amount you aspire to shed, all while adhering to the recommended guideline of one to two pounds per week. Similarly, when committing to exercising more, elevate your resolution by pledging to engage in a structured 30-minute exercise routine five days a week. For those in need of assistance in defining specific health goals, consider collaborating with your doctor or healthcare provider for tailored guidance.

* Embrace Realism: The foundation of achievable goals rests upon their realism. If you've been inactive for an extended period, aspiring to undertake the training regimen for a marathon may not be the most realistic goal. Instead, consider setting milestones that gradually elevate your activity levels. Similarly, if your vegetable intake has been sporadic, commence your journey by incorporating one serving of a fruit or vegetable into your daily meals, progressively working your way up to a commendable five servings per day over the course of the year.

* Track and Acknowledge Success: Empower your resolution journey by adopting tools such as wearable fitness trackers to maintain motivation. For those endeavoring to quit smoking, keeping a record of the financial savings accrued from refraining from purchasing cigarettes serves as a tangible testament to your progress.

* Embrace Imperfection: Recognize that the pursuit of perfection is not a prerequisite. If your resolution involves cultivating healthier eating habits, understand that there's no need to eliminate all your favorite foods at once. Instead, implement one or two small changes at a time, and don't shy away from indulging in the occasional treat, as it can surprisingly contribute to your ability to stay on track and achieve your long-term goals.

* Celebrate and Reward Milestones: Break down your overarching goals into smaller, more manageable milestones, and revel in the satisfaction of achieving each one. Whether it's joining an online support group, basking in the warmth of a hug from a loved one, or treating yourself to a well-deserved massage, celebrating these victories contributes to the positive reinforcement needed for sustained progress.

Embarking on a healthy New Year's resolution that places a profound focus on your overall well-being signifies a crucial initial stride towards a more fulfilled and contented version of yourself. By incorporating and adhering to these comprehensive tips, you can lay the groundwork for a journey that ensures not only the attainment of your resolutions but also the cultivation of a healthier and happier lifestyle in the long run.

Merry Christmas & New Year's Resolutions

I just wanted to take a minute and say Merry Christmas and thank you for following me through 2023. You are my biggest inspiration and I am so grateful for each and every one of you.

What are your health plans looking forward to 2024? How do we conquer those New Year's resolutions and make a profound impact on our overall well-being?

Embarking on the transformative journey of making lifestyle changes, particularly in the realm of diet, involves a multifaceted approach. The binary distinction between being strictly "on" or entirely "off" a diet can be daunting and, in some cases, counterproductive. What if, instead, we embraced a more nuanced and flexible philosophy—one that permits thoughtful adjustments without the need for total deprivation? It's akin to a subtle but impactful shift in mindset, drawing parallels to the grading system used in tests, where perfection is rarely achieved at 100% or forsaken entirely at 0%; most fall within the spectrum in between.

As we navigate the intricate landscape of a healthier lifestyle, it's imperative to redefine the notion of perfection. Rather than fixating on an elusive 100%, the emphasis shifts to the concept of consistency. It's the persistent, day-to-day commitment to small, sustainable changes that often yield more profound and enduring results than the pursuit of an ideal that may be unattainable.

Crucially, there's a recognition that an all-or-nothing mentality has no place in the realm of well-being. The idea of a universally applicable, flawless approach is dispelled. Instead, the focus pivots to discovering what resonates with your unique preferences and lifestyle—an individualized approach to wellness.

If the prospect of initiating these transformative changes feels overwhelming, and the contemplation of a postponement until after the holidays is on your mind, rest assured that the choice is entirely yours. No judgment is passed here! Nevertheless, in the spirit of good-natured banter, it's worth noting that while there's no disapproval, there might be a playful hint of "disappointment" (all in good fun, of course!). Whether you decide to embark on your wellness journey today or choose to wait until after the festive season, the paramount objective remains the same: crafting a sustainable and balanced approach that aligns harmoniously with your unique goals and lifestyle. Here's to the beautifully intricate tapestry of your well-being journey—a narrative written uniquely by you! 🌱

Moreover, in our collective pursuit of well-being, it's essential to embrace the idea that health is not a one-size-fits-all concept. The path to a healthier lifestyle is as diverse as the individuals traversing it. Each person brings a unique set of circumstances, preferences, and challenges to this journey. Recognizing this diversity underscores the importance of tailoring wellness practices to suit individual needs. It's about finding joy in the process, discovering what nourishes both body and soul, and cultivating habits that resonate with your own rhythm.

Consider this journey as an exploration—an ongoing adventure filled with discoveries, setbacks, and triumphs. The beauty lies not only in the destination but also in the evolution that occurs along the way. Every choice, whether it's opting for a nutrient-rich meal or savoring a special treat, contributes to the narrative of your well-being journey. It's a journey that invites self-compassion, allowing for flexibility and adaptation as you navigate the ebb and flow of life's demands.

So, whether you're taking the first step today or planning to initiate changes post-holiday festivities, remember that you're not just embarking on a wellness journey; you're crafting a narrative uniquely yours. Here's to the rich tapestry of your well-being, the vibrant hues of which are painted by your choices, experiences, and the genuine pursuit of a balanced, joyful life. πŸŒΏπŸ’–

7 Healthy New Year's Resolutions you can actually keep...

1. Lose weight and keep it off

A resolution to lose weight is one of the most important steps you can take toward better health. Losing just five to ten percent of your body weight can help lower your risk of chronic health conditions, such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, and high blood pressure.

2. Eat a healthy diet

Healthy eating involves both what you eat and how you eat. Getting your recommended servings of fruits and vegetables each day is important because fruits and veggies are low in calories and fat, high in fiber, and rich sources of vitamins and minerals.

3. Sit less, move more

If you haven’t exercised for a while, going to a gym every day may not be a realistic goal. Making a resolution to simply add more physical activity into your daily life is more attainable

.4. Schedule an annual checkup

Seeing your primary care doctor each year and taking advantage of your preventive care benefits can help you stay healthy. Regular checkups and preventive screenings allow your doctor to identify minor health issues before they become bigger problems.

5. Take steps to reduce stress

Learning how to manage stress is an important part of taking care of yourself and maintaining good overall mental and physical health. If your stress is getting out of control, simple activities like practicing breathing exercises, going for a walk, or listening to music can help restore calm to your life.

6. Get more sleep

Good quality sleep boosts your immune system and promotes emotional wellness by giving your mind time to rest and recharge. Establishing a relaxing bedtime routine, limiting screen time before bed, and creating a quiet sleep environment can help you get the sleep you need.

7. Create a plan to stop smoking

Smoking harms nearly every organ in the body and is the leading cause of preventable death in the United States. Smokeless tobacco causes cancer of the mouth and can lead to nicotine addiction.

Celebrate your milestones. Break your overall goals into smaller items, and reward yourself for each step you accomplish. Join an online support group. Get a hug from your spouse or child. Or treat yourself to a massage.

Making a healthy New Year’s resolution focused on your well-being is an important first step. Following these tips can help make sure you stay on track toward becoming a healthier, happier you.

Life is full of "what if" moments...

Life is full of '"what if" moments...

The moment before you try to lose weight AGAIN...

"What if this doesn't work? Will I be stuck feeling this way?"

The moment before going to the gym for the first time...

"What if people stare at me and start laughing?"

The moment before stepping on the scales each week...

"What if I've put weight on? I'll be so deflated."

What if you thought about life's moments in a different way?

What if you stop complaining and took action?...

That moment could change your life...

What if you took responsibility for your decisions and realized you're the one in control?

That moment would be a breakthrough...

What if you chose your own happiness over what others think?...

That moment would set you free...

What if you stopped thinking about "what if" and started enjoying life's moments?

“I would rather never give up on my dreams and end up disappointed than give up on myself.”

Reinvent Yourself For 2015

Reinvent Yourself For 2015!

It's that time of year again. The time of year that we imagine the arrival of a new year will magically provide the catalyst, motivation and persistence we need to reinvent ourselves.
Traditionally, New Year’s Day is styled as the ideal time to kick start a new phase in your life and the time when you must make your all important new year’s resolution. Unfortunately, the beginning of the year is also one of the worst times to make a major change in your habits because it’s often relatively stressful time, right in the middle of the party and vacation season.

Don’t set yourself up for failure in 2015 by vowing to make huge changes that will be hard to keep. Follow these easy steps for success in making a new year’s resolution you can stick to for good.

1. Pick one!
You can't change your whole life and lifestyle at the same time it won’t work. Pick one area of your life to change and start there. Make it something concrete so you know exactly what change you’re planning to make. If you’re successful with the first change you can go ahead and make another change after a month or so. By making small changes one after the other, you still have the chance to be a whole new you at the end of 2015 and it’s a much more realistic way of doing it.

2. Plan ahead
To ensure success you need to research the change you’re making and plan ahead so you have the resources available when you need them. Here are a few things you should do to prepare and get all the systems in place ready to make your change. Plan for success – Get everything ready so things will run smoothly. If you’re taking up running make sure you have the trainers, clothes, hat, glasses, ipod loaded with energetic sounds at the ready. Then there can be no excuses.

3. Anticipate problems
There will be problems that's life so make a list of what they’ll be. If you think about it, you’ll be able to anticipate problems at certain times of the day, with specific people or in special situations. Once you've identified the times that will probably be hard you work out ways to cope with them when it happens.

4. Pick a start date
You don’t have to make these changes on New Year’s Day. If you truly want to make changes then pick a day when you know you’ll be well-rested, enthusiastic and surrounded by positive people.

5. Go for it
Do everything 100%. Make a commitment and write it down on a card. You just need one short phrase you can carry in your wallet. Or keep it in your car, by your bed and on your bathroom mirror too for an extra dose of positive encouragement.
Your commitment card will say something like:
·         I enjoy a clean, smoke-free life.
·         I stay calm and in control even under times of stress.
·         I’m committed to learning how to run my own business.
·         I meditate daily.

6. Failure Happens
If you do fail and sneak a cigarette, miss a walk, or shout at the kids one morning don’t hate yourself for it. Make a note of the triggers that caused this set back and vow to learn a lesson from them.
If you know that alcohol makes you crave cigarettes and oversleep the next day cut back on it. If you know the morning rush before school makes you shout then get up earlier or prepare things the night before to make it easier on you. Perseverance is the key to success. Try again, keep trying and you will succeed.

7. Reward Yourself
Small rewards are great encouragement to keep you going during the hardest first days. After that you can probably reward yourself once a week with a magazine, a trip to the movies or whatever you like. Later you can change the rewards to monthly and then at the end of the year you can pick an anniversary reward. Something that you’ll look forward to. You deserve it and you’ll have earned it.
